If you’re looking for some means of enjoying the fine weather that is expected this weekend, you might consider taking the commuter rail to Salem and checking out the Trash Menagerie, followed by a stroll along the water front.

Or, if you’d rather not travel so far, consider the public art along the Boston Harbor Walk. The Neponsett River Park area in Dorchester is an under-appreciated (even if art-free) treasure. Note that although the pages for each neighborhood appear blank, a list of specific areas is given in the left-hand menu.

On the subject of stopping to take a look around you, the New Visions exhibition of up-and-coming local artists includes local photographer

The Cambridge Energy Alliance is debuting a poster art exhibit to inform the public about climate change and its impacts, the carbon emissions of Cambridge, and how local citizens can make a difference. Over 80% of Cambridge’s Climate emissions come from residential and commercial buildings, so eliminating wasted energy in our homes and workplaces is a priority.

The Cambridge Energy Alliance art exhibit displays many ways people can conserve energy and get connected to efficiency programs and resources. The Exhibit will be on display from Wednesday, February 16^th, 2010 through March 20^th, 2010 at the Clear Conscience Café (C3) located inside Harvest Coop‘s Central Square location.

CEA has received a number of tickets for free general admission to the Museum of Science, and is making them available to interested parties. They will be available for pick-up from CEA’s offices beginning at noon on Friday 9/25, which should be staffed until 7PM on that date. Note: The tickets expire Wednesday 9/30.

Alas, this windfall comes a little late for you to catch Manufactured landscapes, and too early for Running the Numbers: Portraits of Mass Consumption. However, the museum has a number of other interesting exhibits—including several related to energy—as well as a special showing of the new film Food, Inc. on Wednesday at 2; advanced registration required.

The tickets were donated by The WhizKids Foundation, a Cambridge-based non-profit that works with local schools to improve STEM education.

The Python-esque composite image above is an example of the work by Sammy Baloji, one of the finalists in this year’s Prix Pictet for environmental art. Also nominated is Edward Burtynsky, whose work is on exhibit at the Museum of Science as previously mentioned.

The DeCordova Museum & Sculpture Park in Lincoln, home to the lovely “Pine Sharks” pictured at left, is featuring an exhibit of photography on the effects of the built environment dubbed Power Structures.
