On September 24, the Council held a special hearing on the emergency before a packed chamber. Scientists Melanie Fitzpatrick, Jill Stein, Frank Ackerman and John Sterman spoke on the latest climate findings, the health impacts of climate change, the economics of the emergency, and the urgent need for action. Also at the hearing, the Climate Awareness and Mobilization Working Group, which organized the hearing, called for a Mayor's climate emergency conference, drawing on all sectors of the city, to develop a new climate plan and concrete actions the city should take.
Please contact the Councillors to voice your support for a climate emergency conference and any other measures you believe can help us to fight climate change.

Excellent report of this hearing. The panelists noted that they were there not to offer policy solutions, but as scientists provide the data and analysis to help the public and policy makers understand the climate emergency.

Dr. Sterman and Stein offered critiques on economic analysis, it was left up to the public about what conclusions to draw. It seems to me Doctor Stein also was suggesting that for-profit system wasn't going to allow us to get where we need to get.

minor quibble: Clinton admin. valued life at $6million, Bush $4million, though clearly lives on the other side of our border are valued some place around 0.
